Voter registration records indicate the Carnegie Mellon University student adopted her mother Katie Holmes’ middle name instead
Suri, the 20-year-old daughter of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, has legally changed her surname from Cruise to Noelle, according to voter registration records.
The Carnegie Mellon University student is registered to vote in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, under the name Suri Noelle. The new surname appears to be a nod to her mother’s middle name, which Suri also used when she graduated from high school in 2024.
Representatives for Cruise and Holmes had not immediately commented on the reported name change.
Family law attorney Monica Mazzei explained that because Suri is now an adult, she has the ability to change her name independently. Mazzei also noted that Holmes previously had sole legal custody of Suri, allowing her to make legal decisions on her daughter’s behalf before Suri turned 18.
Holmes has previously spoken about watching her daughter enter this next stage of life. In a 2024 interview, the Dawson’s Creek actress said she was proud of Suri and excited for her to experience the independence and self-discovery that comes with college.
Holmes acknowledged that she would miss having her daughter nearby but said she was happy for her. Reflecting on her own experience at that age, she described the college years as an exciting period of discovering more about yourself and beginning a new chapter.
