Singer Reflects on 2025 as ‘A Good Year’ Following Engagement and Masters Reclaim

Taylor Swift had a straightforward reply for critics who suggest she should step out of the spotlight.
During her Wednesday appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the 35-year-old singer discussed the people she looks to for guidance in her career, emphasizing that she admires “career longevity” in others.
“Career longevity, longevity in friendships, longevity in relationships,” Swift said. “I’m always asking, ‘How do you maintain something good for a long time?’ Some parts of society really respect that.”
She added, “But there are also people who say, ‘Give someone else a turn. Can’t you just go away so we can talk about how good you were?’ And my response is, ‘I don’t want to.’”
Swift shared that she relies on three key advisors: singer-songwriter Stevie Nicks, record producer Max Martin, and her fiancé, professional football player Travis Kelce. “I can talk to him about anything,” she said.
Reflecting on 2025, Swift described it as “a good year,” feeling deeply grateful for two major milestones: getting engaged to Kelce and regaining ownership of her masters.
“Both of those things could have never happened,” she told Colbert. “It wasn’t guaranteed. I’m so thankful that both came into my life.” She credited her fans for playing a role in helping her reclaim her music.
Swift and Kelce announced their engagement on Instagram in August, posting a photo of him on one knee surrounded by flowers with the caption, ‘Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married 🧨.’ The couple began dating after Kelce attended one of Swift’s Eras Tour stops and later admitted on his podcast, New Heights, that he was disappointed not to have met her following the show.
The Eras Tour itself was a massive undertaking, lasting nearly two years from March 2023 to December 2024. Swift performed 149 shows across five continents, each lasting around three hours. Despite battling the stomach flu multiple times during the tour, she performed without letting fans know.
“My goal was to never let them know I had the stomach flu,” Swift said. She described feeling like a “flickering lightbulb” at the end of each concert and detailed her post-show routine: returning to the hotel, changing out of costume, taking a bath (“mermaid time”), and enjoying as much room service as possible to relax.
Part of winding down involved turning off her creative brain. She shared that she enjoys watching true crime shows, particularly Dateline, and listening to audiobooks, often featuring mysterious love stories, murder plots, or characters who aren’t what they initially seem.
