Taylor Swift’s ‘Eras Tour’ will make its way to Indianapolis next month.
If you’re not an avid Taylor Swift fan, you may have missed that her “Eras Tour” performance on Sunday night hit an unexpected snag.
During a complex, choreographed segment of the show, the stage experienced a malfunction, prompting Swift and her dancers to think on their feet and adjust.
While performing her hit song “Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?” from her latest album, The Tortured Poets Department, Swift typically performs on a moving platform affectionately nicknamed the “Tayroomba” by fans due to its resemblance to a Roomba.
Unfortunately for Swift, the platform—seen by some as a brief respite for the singer during her three-and-a-half-hour show—malfunctioned.
The platform’s movements are designed to align with Swift’s lyrics. As she sings, “So I leap from the gallows and I levitate down your street,” the platform is meant to carry her across the stage with a projected graphic simulating motion.
In a video now circulating online, fans quickly notice the platform is malfunctioning, leaving Swift stranded on top.
This isn’t the first instance of the platform malfunctioning; a similar issue occurred this summer in Dublin.
Realizing the platform wasn’t functioning correctly, Swift slid off and confidently walked down the stage. Luckily, she managed to recreate her usual movements without the platform, though the dancers faced a tougher challenge, having to maneuver around the large obstacle.
During her mashup of “Down Bad” and her popular single “Fortnight” featuring Post Malone, Swift typically traverses the stage using the platform at this point in the concert. With such a vast stage, it helps her cover a lot of ground efficiently.
Swift’s fans applauded her professionalism online, with comments like “she handled the situation incredibly well” and “she doesn’t need the platform to pull off an amazing performance.”
Sunday marked Swift’s third and final show in New Orleans before she heads to Indianapolis next month.
