Two workers were reportedly in serious condition and four others were stable after a piece of equipment lost control during the stage teardown following Ed Sheeran’s Detroit concert.
Six workers were injured Saturday while crews were dismantling equipment following Ed Sheeran’s concert at Ford Field in Detroit.
The injured crew members were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment after the incident occurred during the post-concert load-out.
According to reports, some workers were taking a scheduled break when a piece of equipment reportedly became uncontrollable and struck several people. The accident happened as the concert stage was being dismantled near a vehicle tunnel.
One worker was discharged from the hospital on Sunday after spending the night receiving medical care. Another crew member, who was struck in the chest, described the incident as something he had never encountered before, saying it unfolded almost instantly.
Authorities reported that none of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening. At the time the six workers were transported for treatment, two were listed in serious condition, while the remaining four were considered stable.
Ford Field also confirmed that one of the injured individuals was an employee of the stadium.
In a statement, the venue said it had initiated a comprehensive review of the incident and was working with the relevant authorities as well as the production companies involved with the concert.
“Ford Field has begun a full review and is cooperating with the appropriate authorities and with the event’s production partners,” the stadium said. The venue declined to speculate about what caused the accident, citing the ongoing review, and expressed appreciation to the Detroit Fire Department and EMS crews for responding quickly.
