Shakira Cancels Sixth Show of Tour, Fans React to Pattern of Last-Minute Cancellations

Shakira has canceled yet another concert—her sixth of the year—this time in Washington, D.C., where she was set to perform on Saturday at Nationals Park. The abrupt cancellation follows her Boston show at Fenway Park being called off just two days earlier, which appears to have disrupted plans for the D.C. event.

The Capital Pride Alliance, organizers of the Washington concert, expressed disappointment in a public statement, noting that fans and supporters had traveled from around the globe to attend. “We, like Shakira’s fans and our community members, are deeply disappointed by the unexpected circumstances that led to the cancellations in both Boston and D.C.,” the group shared on social media.

An additional message sent to ticket holders explained that logistical complications stemming from the canceled Boston show made it impossible to transport the full production setup to Washington in time for Saturday’s performance. “Despite every effort, it is not possible to proceed as planned,” the notice read.

Shakira also addressed the situation on Instagram, writing, “There’s nothing more painful for an artist than canceling two sold-out stadium shows for reasons beyond one’s control.” She thanked her fans for their loyalty, adding, “We’ve weathered so much together—you always help me pull through. I love you all deeply.”

The cancellations mark a troubling trend in Shakira’s “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran” world tour, which kicked off in South America earlier this year. One of the earliest setbacks occurred in Lima, Peru, where a show was called off due to the singer being hospitalized for an abdominal issue. Not long after, a concert in Colombia had to be postponed after structural damage to the stage raised safety concerns.

In early March, two shows in Santiago, Chile, were also scrapped just hours before showtime. Shakira later explained that the stage setup was deemed unsafe for both performers and audience members. “I would never compromise the safety of my team or my fans,” she wrote in a heartfelt message.

Similar safety issues led to the last-minute cancellation of the Boston concert. According to a Live Nation representative, routine checks revealed that certain stage elements didn’t meet required safety standards, prompting organizers to pull the plug.

Following the D.C. cancellation, frustrated fans took to social media to voice their concerns about the consistency of show cancellations and their timing. One user wrote on X, formerly Twitter, “This is just disrespectful to her fans… last minute every time.” Another commented, “I love Shakira, but I can’t accept these excuses. Canceling on the day of the show is just unacceptable and really affects how people view her.”
