The artist behind “I’m the Problem” has finally explained why he was so eager to reach “God’s country.”
Morgan Wallen was ready to head home—and he wasn’t kidding.
On March 29, the “I’m the Problem” artist appeared as the musical guest on “Saturday Night Live,” but made a sudden exit during the usual end-of-show credits. Shortly after leaving the iconic 30 Rockefeller Plaza in New York, Wallen shared his eagerness to return home, posting a photo on Instagram Stories of a private jet with the caption, “Get me to God’s country.”
The 31-year-old singer addressed the abrupt departure during a podcast appearance with comedian Caleb Pressley on Sunday.
“Did ‘SNL’ upset you?” Pressley jokingly asked.
Wallen responded, “No, no, I was just ready to go home. I had been there all week.”
The two also shared a laugh over another incident that sparked controversy for Wallen.
Pressley asked, “Can we do a new segment brought to you by Food Barn? I want you to name something you can sit in that also flies through the air.”
Wallen replied, “Well, there’s one obvious answer. Why do you want me to say that? Yeah, a jet.”
Pressley teased, “There’s another answer to that too. You can sit in it, and it can also fly through the air.”
Wallen responded, “Oh, I know the answer! A chair!”
In 2024, Wallen faced legal consequences after throwing a chair from a Nashville rooftop, narrowly missing two police officers. He was sentenced to seven days in a DUI education center and two years of supervised probation.
Regarding the “SNL” incident, sources previously informed Fox News Digital that there were no issues with the show, and Wallen’s exit seemed to be an accidental moment.
“That was the way he entered and exited the studio all week during rehearsal and camera blocking, so he just walked that way after hugging [host] Mikey [Madison],” an insider shared.
It’s customary for “SNL” guests to remain on stage and congratulate the cast. In this episode, Madison thanked Wallen for his appearance before the singer walked offstage. The cameras then focused on the cast congratulating each other.
During his appearance, Wallen performed two tracks from his upcoming album, including “Just in Case” and “I’m the Problem.” While his abrupt exit led to speculation about a potential disagreement with “SNL,” Wallen seemed unbothered. Instead, he took advantage of the moment by launching merchandise featuring the phrase “Get me to God’s country.”
A week after his appearance, “SNL” addressed the incident with a cold-open sketch, as reported by Billboard.com. In the bit, James Austin Johnson, impersonating Donald Trump, humorously referenced Wallen while discussing “Liberation Day” tariffs.
“I even put tariffs on an island uninhabited by humans,” Johnson, in character, joked. “It’s called Heard and McDonald Island. I would love to visit there. Can you imagine that? Big Mac and a hula skirt. Get me to God’s country, right? Remember that?”
Around seven months into the pandemic, Wallen was invited to be the musical guest on an October episode of “Saturday Night Live.” However, just days before his performance, a viral video surfaced showing the singer without a COVID mask at an Alabama football game and socializing with multiple women at a bar afterward. This angered many who were advocating for masks and social distancing during the pandemic.
As a result, Wallen was promptly removed from his scheduled “SNL” appearance. He later apologized in a video posted online.
