Morgan Wallen, the singer of I’m the Problem, made his first appearance as SNL’s musical guest in five years.
Morgan Wallen departed from “Saturday Night Live” and headed back to his roots.
The country star returned to the late-night sketch show as a musical guest for the first time in five years, performing in support of his upcoming album, I’m the Problem. After host Mikey Madison expressed gratitude to the Last Night singer for his appearance, Wallen walked straight off the stage while cameras captured the cast celebrating the successful conclusion of another episode.
Not long after leaving Manhattan’s 30 Rockefeller Plaza, Wallen shared his excitement about heading home.
“Get me to God’s country,” the Sand in My Boots singer told his millions of Instagram followers.
Sources told Fox News Digital that there were no issues at SNL, and Wallen’s abrupt exit seemed to be an unintentional slip-up.
“That was the same way he entered and exited the studio all week during rehearsals and camera blocking, so he naturally walked that way after hugging Mikey,” an insider explained.
Wallen took the stage to perform two songs from his upcoming album, including Just in Case and I’m the Problem.
His long-awaited return to SNL came years after a controversial first appearance.
About seven months into the pandemic, Wallen was set to perform as the musical guest on an October episode of Saturday Night Live. However, just days before his scheduled appearance, footage surfaced on social media showing him maskless at an Alabama football game and later partying at a bar with several women. The incident sparked backlash from those who supported mask mandates and social distancing.
Wallen was promptly removed from the scheduled SNL appearance and later issued an apology in a video shared online.
“I’m in New York City in a hotel room, getting ready for SNL this Saturday, and I got a call from the show letting me know that I will no longer be able to play,” he explained. “That’s because of COVID protocols, which I understand.”
After offering his apology, Wallen added, “I think I’ve lost myself a little bit. I’ve tried to find joy in the wrong places, and it’s left me with less joy. So I’m gonna go work on that. I’m gonna take a step back from the spotlight for a while and focus on myself.”
Two months later, Wallen was given a second chance and invited back to 30 Rockefeller Plaza for a return to Saturday Night Live. Not only did he perform, but he also made light of his bar incident by participating in a sketch with Pete Davidson, Jason Bateman, and Bowen Yang.
At the end of the episode, Wallen expressed his gratitude to the audience, thanking them for “giving this poor Southern boy a second Yankee chance.”
Recently, Wallen received multiple nominations for the 2025 ACM Awards, including Entertainer of the Year, Male Artist of the Year, Artist-Songwriter of the Year, and Single of the Year with Post Malone for their hit song, I Had Some Help.
