Chappell Roan, Stevie Nicks and Alanis Morissette Take the Stage as Olivia Rodrigo Reflects on Lilith Fair’s Influence
Olivia Rodrigo gave attendees at the Daisy Chain Fields festival an unexpected surprise when she introduced a special guest who was ready to make a major contribution to the event’s charitable efforts.
Ahead of her headlining performance in Irvine, Rodrigo revealed that the inaugural women-focused music festival had already generated $10 million for nonprofit organizations supporting women and girls. She then shared an even bigger announcement: philanthropist Melinda French Gates had committed to matching the entire amount, bringing the total fundraising figure to $20 million.
Rodrigo, who first announced the female-led festival in June, praised the artists who took part throughout the day and performed without compensation as she celebrated the initial $10 million raised.
The singer explained that she believes helping women gain access to resources that allow them to shape their futures, stay healthy and live without violence or discrimination is one of the most meaningful ways to create positive change.
Rodrigo said few people embody those values as strongly as Gates. She described the philanthropist as one of the most inspiring women she has encountered and praised her efforts to support women and girls who might otherwise be overlooked.
The pop star told the audience she was amazed that Gates was not only attending the festival but had also agreed to double the amount raised. With the additional contribution, the event’s charitable total would reach $20 million.
After joining Rodrigo onstage, Gates celebrated the singer’s accomplishment, encouraging her to recognize the impact she had created through the festival.
Gates also emphasized that meaningful influence extends beyond the performers onstage, telling the audience that collective action by women and girls can create lasting change. She noted that the nonprofit groups receiving the funds would continue their work even after the festival ended and thanked everyone who participated.
Rodrigo had announced the $10 million fundraising milestone during a press conference on Friday, ahead of the festival, revealing that the money would benefit several organizations dedicated to causes affecting women and girls.
