Her representatives confirmed that the Grammy-winning rapper, Megan Thee Stallion, is being assessed for symptoms after being removed from her role in Moulin Rouge! during a performance.
Megan Thee Stallion was hospitalized after becoming ill during her Broadway performance in Moulin Rouge! The Musical.
“During Tuesday night’s show, Megan began feeling unwell and was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where her symptoms are being assessed,” her representative told The Hollywood Reporter. “We will provide further updates as more information becomes available.”
The Grammy-winning rapper, who plays the role of The Zidler, made her Broadway debut in the show on March 24 at the Al Hirschfeld Theater in New York.
Audience member and media personality Loren Lorosa shared a detailed account of the incident on X, writing: “Came to see Meg Thee Stallion on Broadway, and that was short-lived. The few opening scenes I saw her in were amazing! I was excited BUT… They stopped Moulin Rouge! mid-show, apologized to the audience, and said, ‘stay inside and seated.’”
She added, “I asked security if we’re safe… they told us, ‘for now, we’ll update you if anything changes.’”
Megan Thee Stallion is scheduled to perform as The Zidler for an eight-week run through May 17. According to Playbill, she is the first woman ever to portray this character in any production of Moulin Rouge! worldwide.
In a statement from February, Megan expressed her excitement about the new challenge: “Joining the Broadway stage and becoming part of the Moulin Rouge! The Musical team is a tremendous honor. I’ve always believed in pushing myself creatively, and theater is a whole new opportunity I’m thrilled to embrace.”
She continued, “Broadway demands a unique level of discipline, preparation, and storytelling, but I’m ready for it and can’t wait for the Hotties to see a different side of me.”
