Mark Wahlberg Says Time Away from Family Is the ‘Biggest Sacrifice’ of His Career
Mark Wahlberg is opening up about the challenges that come with balancing Hollywood success and family life.
The Play Dirty star, 54, told ABC News that the hardest part of his job is spending so much time away from his wife and four children. “The biggest sacrifice with my job is being away from my family,” he explained. “So, to have them visit me on set or come to the premiere and share those experiences—it means everything.”
Wahlberg added that his children’s enthusiasm for his work has shifted as they’ve grown older. “Back in the Transformers days, they were excited to see the action and Bumblebee,” he joked. “Now they’re like, ‘Dad, this is boring.’”
The actor and his wife, Rhea Durham, share four kids: Ella, Michael, Brendan, and Grace. Wahlberg first met Durham during a press event in New York City and invited her to church the following day—a moment that marked the beginning of their relationship. The couple eventually married, and Wahlberg credits her with grounding him.
“I owe a lot to my wife,” he told The Sun in a 2018 interview. “She’s helped me become the man I am and created a beautiful life for me and our children. I knew I could trust her, and until I met her, I wasn’t ready for marriage.”
Beyond acting, Wahlberg is also known for his strict fitness and wellness routine, which he says helps him set an example for his family. His day often begins at 3 a.m. after turning in for the night by 7 p.m. “I learned the hard way over the years, which is why I stick to the discipline,” he explained. “It’s the only way I can be successful—personally and professionally.”
In a past conversation with Fox News Digital, the actor detailed his daily grind: “Tomorrow I’m getting up at 2:30, in the gym by 3:30, done around 5:30, and on set by 7:30. Then it’s reading, script work, and interviews throughout the day.”
