Macaulay Culkin revealed that when the Illinois house featured in his iconic 1990 Christmas film Home Alone was put up for sale, he considered purchasing it, with a clear vision of what he’d do if he owned it.
During a screening of the classic holiday film at the Rosemont Theater near Chicago, the 44-year-old actor shared with the audience that he “halfway thought about buying it — just for fun,” according to The New York Times.
Culkin, best known for playing 8-year-old Kevin McCallister, clarified that he didn’t intend to move in with his fiancée Brenda Song and their two young children. Instead, he envisioned transforming the house into a “movie fun house.” He thought it would be enjoyable to give fans the opportunity to recreate memorable scenes, such as Kevin sliding down the staircase on a sled.
In the end, Culkin admitted that the demands of his life made the idea unfeasible. “I’ve got kids. I’m busy, man,” he explained.
The screening was part of his ongoing “Home Alone: A Nostalgic Night With Macaulay Culkin” tour this season, which includes a Q&A session for fans.
Kevin McCallister’s escapades in Home Alone have become a cherished part of Christmas traditions for many.
