Lady Gaga Cancels Miami Concert Moments Before Showtime Due to Vocal Strain
Just before stepping on stage in Miami, Lady Gaga was forced to call off her concert after doctors warned her of a vocal cord issue that could put her voice at risk.
The “Bad Romance” superstar, who has been touring the U.S. on her Mayhem Ball Tour since July, addressed fans in a heartfelt Instagram Story on Wednesday evening, apologizing to her 61 million followers.
“Hi everyone, I am really so so sorry but I need to postpone tonight’s show in Miami,” Gaga wrote. She explained that during rehearsal the night before—and again during her vocal warm-up—her voice felt severely strained. “Both my doctor and vocal coach have advised me not to go on because of the risk it poses.”
The singer, who had been slated for a two-hour set at the Kaseya Center, admitted she considered performing anyway. “I want to be hardcore and just push through this for you but I don’t want to risk long term or permanent damage on my vocal cords,” she shared. “There is a significant risk … and as you know I sing live every night. Even though this was a hard and agonizing decision, I would be more afraid of the long term implications on my voice.”
She concluded her message with an emotional apology: “I tried so hard to avoid this. I take serious care of myself to be able to put on this highly demanding show. I love my fans so much, respect you, and hope you can accept my sincere regretful apology. We are trying to reschedule the show as quickly as possible.”
A representative for Gaga did not immediately provide further comment.
The pop icon is next scheduled to perform at New York City’s Madison Square Garden on Sept. 6 and 7.
Gaga’s cancellation follows a wave of last-minute concert postponements by other major artists this summer. In August, Kelly Clarkson delayed the remainder of her Las Vegas residency shows, citing her ex-husband Brandon Blackstock’s ongoing health struggles. “At this moment, I need to be fully present for [my children],” Clarkson wrote at the time.
