‘House of Cards’ Star Kevin Spacey Responds to Fans Offering Help After Reports Suggested He Was Homeless
Following recent reports claiming that Kevin Spacey was homeless and living out of hotels and Airbnbs, the “House of Cards” actor has publicly addressed the rumors about his living situation.
On Sunday, Spacey — who faced career blacklisting after multiple sexual assault allegations — took to Instagram to clarify remarks he made in a recent Telegraph interview, in which he discussed the impact of his legal battles and suggested he had no permanent home.
“I don’t usually make it my business to correct the media. If I did, I wouldn’t have time for much else,” he said in the Instagram video. “However, given recent articles suggesting I’m homeless, I feel it’s necessary to respond — not to the press, but to the thousands of people who have reached out over the past few days, offering me a place to stay or simply checking if I’m okay.
“To all of you, I want to say how truly touched I am by your kindness,” Spacey continued. “That said, I would be misleading if I let anyone believe that I am homeless in the usual sense of the word.”
In his Instagram post, Kevin Spacey elaborated on his earlier remarks, explaining the context behind the Telegraph story that sparked the homelessness rumors.
“In my conversation with Mick Brown, the wonderful journalist who wrote the piece in The Telegraph where this all started, I explained that I’ve basically been living in hotels and Airbnbs, moving to wherever the work takes me — just like when I first started in this business,” Spacey said. “I’ve been working almost nonstop this year, and for that, I’m incredibly grateful.”
He stressed that while many people are facing homelessness or severe financial struggles, he is not among them.
“My heart goes out to those who are truly living on the streets or in their cars or dealing with dire financial situations,” he said. “But it’s clear from the article itself that I am not one of them, and I never intended to suggest otherwise.”
Spacey closed the post by thanking fans for their support and kindness.
In the Telegraph interview, he also discussed the financial challenges he has faced over the past several years.
“The costs over the last seven years have been enormous,” Spacey explained, referencing his recent performances, including his nightclub show in Cyprus, Kevin Spacey: Songs & Stories. “My income has been minimal, and expenses have been high. You just find ways to get through it. In some strange ways, it feels like I’m back where I started, simply going where the work is. Everything else is in storage, and I hope that if circumstances improve, I’ll eventually have the freedom to choose where I settle again.”
He added, “I’m living in hotels and Airbnbs, moving to where the work is. I literally have no permanent home — that’s what I was trying to convey.”
