Kelly Clarkson Mourns the Loss of Ex-Husband Brandon Blackstock Following His Battle with Cancer

Kelly Clarkson is mourning the passing of her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock, who died at the age of 48 after a prolonged fight with cancer.

According to a source quoted by People magazine, Clarkson has been especially heartbroken for the sake of their children as she processes the emotional weight of the loss. “When she learned of his illness, Kelly stayed protective of him,” the insider shared. “Even when it became clear earlier this year that his health was deteriorating, she chose to handle things with grace. She’s deeply shaken—for herself and, more importantly, for the kids.”

Despite the public nature of their highly publicized and difficult divorce, Clarkson’s top priority remained shielding their children—River Rose and Remington Alexander—from the conflict.

“The divorce was one of the most painful experiences she’s gone through—complicated, emotionally draining, and incredibly tough,” the source continued. “But she was determined never to let the children feel caught in the middle. She refused to speak negatively about Brandon in front of them.”

While Clarkson’s representatives declined to comment when contacted by Fox News Digital, Blackstock’s family released a heartfelt statement following his death on Thursday.

“With heavy hearts, we confirm the passing of Brandon Blackstock,” the statement read. “He fought a courageous battle with cancer for over three years and passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones. We are grateful for the outpouring of prayers and ask for privacy as we grieve this profound loss.”

Clarkson, who had been performing a Las Vegas residency, announced on Wednesday that she would be postponing the rest of her August shows due to a family emergency. In a message shared on Instagram, she wrote:
“While I typically keep my personal matters private, the father of my children has been battling illness over the past year, and I need to be fully present for them right now.”

Clarkson and Blackstock were married in 2013 after first meeting several years earlier—his father, Narvel Blackstock, managed Clarkson through his music management firm starting in 2007. The couple welcomed daughter River Rose in 2014 and son Remington Alexander in 2016.
