Just a week after unexpectedly delaying the opening night of her Las Vegas residency, Kelly Clarkson made a triumphant return to the stage.
During her Friday night performance, the “Since U Been Gone” singer addressed the crowd with an apology for the last-minute cancellation and opened up about how difficult the decision was for her.
“It took me some time to get back,” Clarkson told fans, according to Billboard. “I’m really sorry if any of you had tickets last weekend. Sometimes we just can’t control what our bodies do when we’re sick. But thank you for being here tonight.”
Later in the show, after receiving a shot of tequila from an audience member, she shared, “I’m celebrating tonight because last weekend was rough. I cried—I was so sick. It was awful. So I’m just really grateful to be back on this stage.”
Originally slated to kick off on July 4, Clarkson’s Studio Sessions residency was postponed just hours before showtime. She announced the delay on Instagram, explaining that nonstop rehearsals had strained her voice.
“We’ve been working around the clock to make Studio Sessions a special, intimate experience for my amazing fans,” she wrote. “I’m so thankful for your support, and I’m heartbroken that I have to delay the first two shows.”
She emphasized the importance of vocal rest, saying, “All the prep and long rehearsals have taken a toll. I want these shows to be perfect, and I need to protect my voice from serious damage. I’m taking the time to rest this weekend and into next week so we can deliver the performance you deserve.”
Clarkson praised her team, saying the show features “incredible” musicians and vocalists, and she looked forward to coming back strong the following weekend. “I can’t wait for you all to see what we’ve created.”
