Ruby Rose has accused Katy Perry of sexually assaulting her roughly 20 years ago, a claim Perry’s team has firmly rejected, calling it “reckless lies.”
Over the weekend, the Orange Is the New Black star, 40, made the allegation on Threads while reacting to a post about Perry’s response to a Justin Bieber Coachella performance.
In her post, Rose claimed the incident took place at Spice Market nightclub in Melbourne and expressed frustration that she did not speak about it more openly at the time. She added that she had previously reframed the experience as a “drunken story” because she was unsure how to process it, and later kept it private after Perry allegedly helped her with a U.S. visa.
When asked to elaborate, Rose reiterated her claims and said she had kept silent for nearly two decades before deciding to speak out publicly, describing the emotional impact of the experience and noting that she had previously shared hints about her views on Perry’s character.
A spokesperson for Perry quickly dismissed the accusations, stating that the claims circulating online are “categorically false, dangerous, [and] reckless lies,” and pointed to what they described as a pattern of unverified public allegations made by Rose in the past.
Rose later posted again, saying she had waited almost 20 years to come forward and expressing that speaking about women-on-women abuse can feel especially difficult. She also said she was not planning to file a formal report but would welcome legal action, insisting she had supporting photos and witnesses and that the incident allegedly occurred in a public setting.
She further referenced past experiences with mental health struggles, including depression diagnosed at a young age, dissociative amnesia, and other related conditions, noting that she has faced prolonged periods of emotional difficulty.
