Jessica Simpson, who recently revealed her separation from husband Erik Johnson, marked seven years of sobriety last November.

Jessica Simpson is looking back on a challenging period in her life.
In a recent interview with The Cut, Simpson—who recently ended her marriage to Erik Johnson—discussed how sobriety has positively influenced both her personal and professional life. She also revealed why she felt “a little afraid” of herself while drinking.
“Around 2016 and 2017, I was writing in Los Angeles with some of the biggest hitmakers. I have songs from that time that I never released because they didn’t feel like me,” she shared. “Every time I wrote, I felt a little afraid of myself. It was almost overwhelming, especially since I was drinking then.”
“But after I quit drinking, the fear faded away,” Simpson explained. “It became much easier for me to tap into my creativity.”
She went on to say, “When I was drinking, I overanalyzed everything. This album wasn’t about chasing a hit—it was about capturing a vibe. That’s something rare in Los Angeles right now because everything feels so formulaic. I wanted to break away from that for myself. I’m not concerned about chart success. I’m not signed to a label, and I don’t even expect it to be played on the radio.”
Fox News Digital reached out to Simpson’s representatives for comment, but they did not respond immediately.
Simpson marked seven years of sobriety last November.
“Seven years ago today, I stepped into the light of sobriety,” she shared in an Instagram post.
Her post received an outpouring of support from fans and friends.
“So brave for sharing your honesty! Addiction has impacted everyone I know… Keep up the battle,” one person commented.
John Stamos simply wrote, “Bravo.”
In a 2023 interview with E! News, Simpson shared, “Quitting drinking is the best decision I’ve ever made for myself. It has given me so much clarity.”
She added, “I love being fully present in conversations, truly listening, and understanding what others are thinking. Alcohol prevented me from fully experiencing my life, but now I’m feeling everything—and I love it.”
Simpson also joked, “I’ll admit, it helps keep off those extra holiday pounds!”
