Jamie Foxx has vowed to reveal the details of his recent hospitalization due to a life-threatening health scare in an upcoming stand-up special. Speaking at the African American Film Critics Association (AAFCA) event where he received the Producer’s Award, the 56-year-old actor urged people to appreciate life and their loved ones. Reflecting on his experience, Foxx expressed gratitude towards those who supported him during his ordeal, emphasizing the severity of the situation by likening it to “dire straits.” He acknowledged the curiosity surrounding his health scare, assuring that he would share the details in his own time and manner.

“I’m going to approach it in a humorous way. We’ll be on stage, going back to our stand-up roots. If you want to have a good laugh, come join me when we bring this show to life,” Foxx continued. The comedian assured that his upcoming special will feature elements that “people will love,” but also hinted at moments that will “tug at your heartstrings.”

In December, the “Ray” actor returned to the stage for the first time since his hospitalization in April 2023, acknowledging that six months prior, he “couldn’t even walk to [the stage]. And I’m not a clone, I’m not a clone.”

“I know there’s been talk out there about me being cloned,” Foxx remarked, addressing the conspiracy theories circulating online. “It feels incredible to be here,” he added, emphasizing how he now cherishes every moment differently. Reflecting on his near-death experience, Foxx described the intense emotions of facing mortality, likening it to seeing a tunnel without a clear light at the end. “I have a newfound appreciation for life and my craft,” he continued. “During that time, I immersed myself in movies and music, trying to pass the time. Don’t abandon your art, no matter what. When you realize how fragile it all is… I have to tell you, don’t abandon your art, and don’t let anyone take it from you either.”

Since Jamie Foxx’s hospitalization, details about his health scare have been scarce. The news was initially announced by his daughter, actress Corinne Foxx, on Instagram. In her original post, Corinne wrote, “From the Foxx Family: We wanted to share that my father, Jamie Foxx, experienced a medical complication yesterday. Luckily, due to quick action and great care, he is already on his way to recovery. We know how beloved he is and appreciate your prayers. The family asks for privacy during this time. Much love, The Foxx Family.”
