Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness have officially concluded their decades-long marriage.
Following their announcement of a friendly separation in September 2023, Furness formally filed for divorce in New York on Tuesday. As reported by People, her attorney also submitted related documents covering settlement agreements, healthcare provisions, and medical child support.
The pair married in 1996, when Jackman was 27 and Furness was 40, and they share two adopted children, Oscar and Ava.
The divorce is uncontested and awaits only a judge’s final approval.
On the same day the filing occurred, Furness issued her first public comment since the separation, sharing an emotional statement with the Daily Mail.
“My heart and compassion go out to those who have endured the painful path of betrayal,” she expressed.
She described their split as a deep emotional wound but emphasized her faith in a greater purpose, saying, “I believe a higher power—or whatever source you turn to for guidance—is working in our favor. That belief has helped me through the dissolution of a nearly 30-year marriage.”
Furness explained that despite the hardship, the experience led her to self-discovery and personal insight.
“Even when we face hardships, they often guide us to what’s truly meant for us. The pain can be intense, but ultimately, finding your integrity, values, and boundaries is liberating,” she shared.
She added that her biggest realization was that “none of this is personal,” suggesting that relationships serve as mirrors for growth and healing.
“We’re all on unique paths, and I believe we meet others for a reason—to learn, evolve, and mend parts of ourselves. For that, I’m still grateful,” she concluded.
Representatives for both Jackman and Furness declined to comment when contacted by Fox News Digital.
Earlier this year, Jackman was seen dining hand-in-hand with his former Music Man co-star Sutton Foster in Los Angeles. Foster had filed for divorce from her husband, screenwriter Ted Griffin, in October after a decade of marriage.
The initial announcement of Jackman and Furness’s separation came in a joint statement in September 2023, shared exclusively with People.
“We feel incredibly lucky to have had almost 30 years together in a loving marriage,” the statement read. “As our journey takes a new direction, we’ve chosen to separate in pursuit of personal growth.”
They emphasized their family remains their top priority, asking for privacy and understanding during this transitional time.
“This is the only statement either of us will make,” they concluded, signing it, “Deb and Hugh Jackman.”
The couple first met in 1995 while working on the Australian TV drama Corelli. At the time, Furness was already an award-winning actress, known for her role in the 1988 film Shame and various other projects. The show marked Jackman’s first professional role after completing his training at an Australian acting academy.
In a 2017 interview with People TV, Jackman recalled developing a crush on Furness early in their working relationship.
