Guitarist Luis Maldonado has been announced as the new member, stepping in after the band’s appearance on ‘The Voice’ finale.

Foreigner’s iconic lead vocalist Kelly Hansen has announced he will be stepping down from the band.
Following their impressive performance on Tuesday’s finale of The Voice, Hansen—who joined Foreigner in 2005—revealed to fans and bandmates that this year will be his final with the group.
“After 20 incredible years leading this band, this will be my last year with Foreigner,” Hansen told the audience. “By the end of this summer’s tour, a new voice will take over; my good friend Luis Maldonado.”
Hansen reflected on his time with the band, calling it “one of the greatest honors” of his life. “But the time has come to pass the mic. Luis brings the voice, energy, and soul to carry these songs forward. I’m proud to hand this off to him.”
Foreigner was originally formed in New York City in 1976 by guitarist Mick Jones, vocalist Lou Gramm, drummer Dennis Elliott, keyboardist Al Greenwood, bassist Ed Gagliardi, and multi-instrumentalist Ian McDonald. Hansen has been the band’s lead singer since 2005.
Today, Mick Jones remains the sole founding member actively involved, with the lineup featuring Maldonado, Bruce Watson, Michael Bluestein, Chris Frazier, and Jeff Pilson.
Jones told Rolling Stone, “In 1976, my aim was to bring together the best musicians possible, and the results speak for themselves. About 30 years later, Jason Bonham encouraged me to revive Foreigner, and the magic was still there.”
He praised Hansen’s contribution: “Kelly Hansen is one of the finest frontmen in the business and has breathed new life into our music over the past two decades.”
Jones wished Hansen well in his future pursuits and expressed excitement for Maldonado stepping into the lead vocal role. “Luis was my pick as guitarist and has already impressed us as lead singer during our South America tour. He will lead us to new heights.”
Since their debut, the English-American rock band has achieved worldwide fame with hits like “Cold as Ice” and “I Want to Know What Love Is.”
In October, Hansen and founding member Al Greenwood shared insights with Fox News Digital about the challenges and triumphs of touring, the impact of health issues on the band, and the honor of their Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction.
Greenwood noted, “When you’re starting out in a band and striving for success, the pressure on musicians is intense.”
