British hitmaker to move from England to the U.S. ahead of his next tour.
Ed Sheeran is preparing for a big life change — one that takes him across the Atlantic.
In a recent chat on The 2 Johnnies Podcast, the British hitmaker revealed that he and his family are leaving their home in England and relocating to the United States. The move comes as Sheeran gears up to release his 17th studio album, Play, later this week.
“I’m just about to move to America. I feel like I might be the only person moving to America,” joked Sheeran, who grew up in Framlingham and now lives in Suffolk. “I’m going on tour there for a while and I have a family, so I can’t dip in and out. We’re going and settling there.”
Earlier this year, the father of two shared that he’s eyeing a shift into country music, a genre he’s long admired. “When you transition to country, you can’t transition back,” he told Alex Cooper on Call Her Daddy. “Nashville is my favorite city in the States, and it’s always been my end goal to move there and transition to country.”
Sheeran’s love affair with Nashville isn’t new. Back in 2013, he told BBC’s Newsbeat at the Brit Awards: “Nashville is full of very, very nice people. I don’t think people really care about celebrities there. Even if they knew who you were, they’d just be like, ‘Eh.’”
While Sheeran is heading stateside, other stars have made the opposite move. Celebrities such as Ellen DeGeneres and Rosie O’Donnell have opted for life abroad, with DeGeneres recently relocating to the English countryside.
The comedian revealed that Donald Trump’s return to the White House in 2024 influenced her decision. “We got here the day before the election and woke up to lots of texts from our friends with crying emojis, and I was like, ‘He got in,’” she said during a U.K. appearance, according to the BBC. “And we’re like, ‘We’re staying here.’”
