Carrie Underwood, Gary Sinise, and several other well-known figures have long used their public platforms to express their appreciation for the United States, highlighting the country’s ideals, freedoms, and the sacrifices made by members of the military.
This year’s Independence Day holds added significance as the nation commemorates the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. The historic milestone, known as the United States Semiquincentennial, has been marked by America250 celebrations taking place across the country for more than a year.
As the nation prepares for the landmark anniversary, many public figures have reflected on what being an American means to them, from honoring veterans and first responders to celebrating the opportunities and values they believe define the country.
Country music star Carrie Underwood recently shared her admiration for the United States in a patriotic Instagram post.
The 43-year-old singer uploaded a video showing an impressive display of 1,800 American flags lining a fence near her Tennessee home. Alongside the clip, she wrote, “I can’t believe I get to live here. Thank you, Lord. #GodBlessAmerica #Grateful #TN.”
Earlier, in January 2025, Underwood performed “America the Beautiful” during President Donald Trump’s inauguration inside the U.S. Capitol Rotunda. After technical issues interrupted the planned performance, she continued singing the song a cappella and encouraged those in attendance to join in by saying, “You know the words, help me out here.”
In a statement released at the time, Underwood said she felt honored to participate in the inauguration and described it as a historic occasion. She also expressed hope that Americans could come together in a spirit of unity while looking toward the future.
Beyond ceremonial performances, Underwood regularly recognizes military members and veterans through annual Veterans Day tributes. In 2025, she posted a throwback video from her 2006 USO tour overseas, showing her greeting a U.S. service member. She thanked all who have served for their courage and commitment to protecting the nation’s freedom.
Actor Gary Sinise has also become widely recognized for his unwavering support of America’s armed forces. Following his acclaimed portrayal of wounded Vietnam veteran Lt. Dan Taylor in the 1994 film Forrest Gump, Sinise dedicated much of his career to advocating for military personnel, veterans, and their families.
Inspired by the iconic character, he formed the Lt. Dan Band in 2003. Since then, the group has performed hundreds of free concerts for active-duty service members and veterans around the world while participating in numerous USO tours.
