The “Gettin’ Gone” country singer stepped away from Ella Langley’s Dandelion Tour last month, choosing to take time off and prioritize his health.
Country singer Ernest says stepping away from the spotlight gave him an opportunity to reconnect with his faith and reflect on where he is in life.
The “Gettin’ Gone” singer, whose full name is Ernest Keith Smith, spoke to fans on social media Tuesday, several weeks after he exited Ella Langley’s Dandelion Tour.
In an Instagram post, the 27-year-old artist candidly acknowledged that he had been struggling to find direction and described himself as feeling “lost.” At the same time, he expressed appreciation for the friends and loved ones who continued to support him with kindness and encouragement.
Ernest said that although he still does not have all the answers, he has decided to embrace the process of searching for them.
One of the biggest changes during this period has been his renewed connection with God. Having grown up attending church and a Christian school, Ernest explained that he eventually became exhausted with religion and distanced himself from it.
Looking back, he said he had spent too much time attempting to navigate life according to his own judgment rather than recognizing when he needed guidance.
Ernest acknowledged that he still has plenty of uncertainty about what comes next, but he believes his journey toward understanding begins with opening himself up to something greater than himself.
The singer also reflected on the people closest to him, saying he has a meaningful life surrounded by family and friends who deserve to see him at his best. He added that he deserves to experience that version of himself as well.
Ernest stressed that he was not trying to preach or tell others how to live. Instead, he wanted to let his followers know that he is using this period away from the spotlight to reflect, learn and rediscover himself.
Despite taking time away, Ernest made it clear that his passion for country music remains strong. He reassured fans that he plans to return to both the music and the community he loves once he feels ready.
