Justin Baldoni’s lawyer claims the lawsuit will reveal and disprove the harmful and false narrative.
Justin Baldoni, the director and star of It Ends With Us, is countersuing actress Blake Lively, asserting that the truth will come to light through this new legal action. Lively, 37, had previously filed an 80-page lawsuit against Baldoni earlier this month, accusing him of sexual harassment, retaliation, and trying to ruin her reputation.
Baldoni, however, is now positioning Lively as the true antagonist. His attorney, Bryan Freedman, clarified to People that this filing is not merely a counterclaim, but a determined effort to reveal the truth.
“This lawsuit will expose the false and damaging narrative that was deliberately crafted by a trusted media outlet using questionable sources and failing to verify the accuracy of the text messages,” Freedman stated, referring to a December 21 New York Times article that included text excerpts Baldoni argues were taken out of context.
He added, “There is a substantial body of authentic evidence, including timelines and communications, which have not been manipulated or presented without proper context.”
In his statement, Freedman emphasized, “In my more than 30 years of legal experience, I’ve never encountered such unethical conduct, driven by those who misuse their power and distort the truth.” He added that this case isn’t a one-off but reflects a troubling pattern in Hollywood and the mainstream media, where reputations and careers are harmed to maintain control.
Freedman further stated, “Legacy media has long used its influence to twist the truth, exploit weaknesses, and ruin lives without facing consequences.”
He concluded, saying, “These lawsuits will directly challenge this system, making sure that no individual or entity, no matter how powerful, can continue to perpetuate this cycle of fear and harm. The truth won’t just come to light—it will dismantle the false narratives maintained by those who think they’re beyond reproach.”
Freedman had earlier told The Daily Mail that the countersuit would “shock everyone.”
Before Lively’s lawsuit, rumors had circulated about tension on the set of It Ends With Us, a romantic drama adapted from Colleen Hoover’s best-selling novel. These rumors were later confirmed when Lively filed her complaint, which included allegations such as Baldoni making negative comments about her weight, discussing his sex life, and pressuring her to share her religious beliefs, as reported by The Daily Wire.
Lively also accused Baldoni of crossing boundaries by entering her trailer without permission and engaging in inappropriate conversations about sexual matters. She claimed she was threatened with retaliation for bringing these issues to light.
