Ariana Grande faced a frightening incident on the red carpet at the Singapore premiere of Wicked: For Good.
Videos from the event show a fan jumping over a barricade and rushing toward Grande. The individual put his arm around her neck before her co-star, Cynthia Erivo, quickly intervened to remove him.
The encounter occurred as Grande, Erivo, Michelle Yeoh, and Jeff Goldblum walked the yellow carpet in anticipation of the release of the second Wicked film, which is set to debut in theaters on November 21.
The man involved shared footage of the incident on his Instagram, captioning it: “Dear Ariana Grande, Thank You for letting me Jump on the Yellow Carpet with You.” The post drew thousands of comments, with most fans criticizing his behavior.
“You literally assaulted her,” one person wrote. “This isn’t something to brag about—it’s a crime. Shame on you!”
Another commented, “After everything Ari has endured, this is incredibly disrespectful—not just to her, but also to the cast and fans. It’s infuriating.”
“This was extremely dangerous,” a third user added. “I don’t understand why someone would do this.”
Grande has openly discussed struggling with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) following the 2017 Manchester bombing. In a 2018 interview with British GQ, she reflected on her ongoing trauma:
“Yeah, it’s a real thing,” she said. “I know the families, my fans, and everyone there went through so much as well. It’s difficult to talk about because the loss was so severe. I sometimes feel I shouldn’t even speak about my own experience—I don’t think I’ll ever know how to do it without breaking down.”
The Manchester attack occurred on May 22, 2017, when a suicide bomber detonated a device outside the arena after Grande’s concert, killing 22 people. Over 800 others were injured, both physically and psychologically, according to the BBC.
